We lacked urgency - Frank Lampard reacts to Chelsea draw

Chelsea manager thinks the mistakes his side made in their game against West Brom on Saturday is simply a lack of urgency and it's uncalled for.

Chelsea was already down by 3 goals in space of 27minute in the first half of the game on Saturday and was left a mountain to climb in the second half in which they reacted well and were able to get a draw at Hawthorns.

Mason Mount started the come back with a beautiful strike in the 55th minute of the while Hudson-Odoi also combined well with new boy Kai Havertz to grab the second. There was also time for Tammy Abraham to grab the third in the 90+3min of the game to rescue a point for the London side.

Speaking with Sky Sport after the game, Frank Lampard showed his disappointment especially for the errors that led to two of West Brom's goals and emphasized such mistakes aren't allowed if they want to progress in the league.

‘Thiago one is a mistake,’ Lampard said

‘He’s been there long enough to know one, we’ll certainly give him that one in his first game. ‘And then Marcos loses his man from the third goal from the corner. It was mistakes, clear mistakes [that cost us].

‘You can have as many meetings as you want but with those mistakes you give yourself a mountain to climb. [We lacked] a bit if urgency in the team.

‘It is two points lost at the end of the day – and that’s no disrespect to West Brom. You come here and you know the transition and any mistakes would be something they would jump on – that and set pieces. You can’t legislate for the mistakes that there were today.

‘We created two or three great chances in the first half. I felt we would create more, the only other problem at 3-0 was West Brom were going to protect their lead more. It is a big lesson for us.

‘We will get a lot better, we’re still finding our way with new players and a lack of pre-season. Today is part of the process of getting better.

‘There is a lot we can keep getting better at. I’m not going to criticise every part of our game, I think they had three shots on target and got three goals.

‘There were genuine mistakes. There was nothing tactically you can analyse again and again – there were just pure mistakes.’
