We have just a sentence for Varane - Zinedine Zidane

We have just a sentence for Varane - Zinedine Zidane

On a night where every all Real Madrid players needed to be in top form, two costly errors from Raphael Varane was what cost the La Liga champions a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The first error came in the first half when the France international gave away the ball in the 18-yard box and Raheem Sterling to put it past Thibaut Courtois.

However, Karim Benzema later canceled the lead with a beautiful header. Another error from Varane in the second half saw Gabriel Jesus got the win for the Manchester side.

Speaking after the game Varane was sorry and was quick to accept the blame for his side defeat.

'This defeat is mine, I have to accept it," Varane told reporters

'I am responsible for this defeat. We had prepared well but you pay for your mistakes. I am sad for my team-mates.'

'At 1-1 we had the chance to qualify and today things did not go to plan.'

However, his manager Zinedine Zidane didn't blame Varane while speaking with the reporters but was full of praises for the work his players had done during the season.

'We will tell Varane, keep your head up," Zidane said

'I prefer to dwell on what most of my players achieved over the course of the season, which was spectacular. '

'Our season has been very good. We have not ended with a good result, but the season has been good, despite everything. We must be very happy with what we have done.'

'We lost the two games, and in the end they deserved it. In first 15 or 20 minutes there was a feeling we could not get past their press. But then we played pretty well. In the second half, when we were on top, we gave up the second goal.'
