Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has heaped praises on Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun following his impressive showings for the Scottish giants.

The 32-year-old joined Rangers of Scotland in July after bidding farewell to relegated Championship Wigan Athletic.

The Super Eagles defender without delay has put a huge impression on Ibrox as he is now highly regarded by the first-team players following his contributions in their first two league games.

The Scottish outfit has now kept a clean sheet for two consecutive games recording two victories in the process.

Due to his brilliant showings, the 33-year-old have earned himself a place in the Scottish Premiership team of the week twice in a roll.

Ahead of their clash against St. Johnstone on Wednesday, Gerrard expressed no surprise in the defender's showings.

'We knew we were getting a top player in Balogun,” Gerrard said in a pre-match press conference.

'He is our type and fits our profile and it is important at Ibrox when a team is deep for a defender to be able to sit on the halfway line.'

He also disclosed that Wigan's manager Paul Cook praised the abilities of Balogun.

'I spoke to [Wigan manager] Paul Cook about him and he had only good things to say about Leon.'

The Nigerian international was part of the Nigerian team that finished third in the 2019 Afcon held in Egypt.
