Taiwo Awoniyi revealed he wanted to continue playing after collision

Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi has given his gratitude to God after he passed out in his side last game against Augsburg.

Taiwo Awoniyi had a head collision with Felix Uduokhai in the 16th minute of the game against and landed awkwardly which resulted in a concussion.

The Nigerian was later stretchered off in the 23rd minute and was taken to Mainz University Medical Center for treatment.

Speaking with Ojora Babatunde of OJB SPORT, the Liverpool loanee has now given his gratitude to God and also revealed the funny statement he said to the medics when he was being treated on the pitch.

'I am so thankful and grateful to God for being alive. It happens so fast and I didn’t even know what was going on but in my mind all I was saying was I wanted to continue playing,' He said

'I regained my cautiousness in the hospital and was told of what happened in the stadium. To be alive and okay is the greatest gift that anybody can wish for and I am so appreciative.'

'What I find interesting about this incident is that the doctors and paramedics told me that while they were attending to me at the stadium after the collision I was saying I want to continue playing but for them who saw that I was struggling for survival knew I couldn’t continue.'

'I appreciate them for the work they did and I also thank the fans for the well wishes.'
