Atletico Madrid might miss out on Champions League football

Atletico Madrid might miss out on Champions League football

A win was what Diego Simeone and his boys wanted on a wonderful Sunday afternoon which would have seen them move to fourth on the La Liga table.

However, Athletic Club already had a plan structured out to stop the boys from other side of Madrid.

Diego Costa equalized in the 39min of the game after Athletic Club had already gone ahead in the 37min through Iker Muniain. It looks as if though,  Atletico Madrid would have come out victorious but they couldn't convert their chances and we have to wait another day as the race to grab a Champion League spot continues.

Speaking with LaLiga Tv after the game, Atletico Madrid captain Koke admitted the team didn't take their chances during the game and that they are gradually making it difficult for themselves to qualify for the Champions League next season.

'I believe it was a very strength-based game. It was a tough situation to be in," Koke said

'We didn't take our chances. We have to suffer and accept the draw. We want to be in the Champions League and we need to get hold of the points.'

'It's difficult from this position that we're in.'

'They were better placed than us all over the pitch. We managed to change things after the first goal and a couple of minutes after found the equaliser.'

'Santi had the chance at the end to get us the win.'
