Chile 2015: Golden Eaglets Arrive Santiago

The Nigerian Golden Eaglets on Thursday, October 15, arrived Santiago, capital city of Chile and host of the tournament, to feature at the 16th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament.
The tournament will take place between October 17 and November 8, 2015.



Nigeria is the defending champion after they won the tournament two years ago at the United Arab Emirates, the team has however won the tournament four times.
 The 31 man delegation which includes 21 players and 10 officials including NFF Assistant Director (Technical), Siji Lagunju arrived the city.

Speaking on arrival, head coach of the team, Emmanuel Amuneke stated that the team will defend the titile by clinshing the trophy: “We are here to defend the trophy,” said Amuneke.”We are here with new players who want to write their own history and we are looking forward to our first game against the United States ofAmerica, which is very important for us.”

FIFA officials in the persons of, Mario Monterrosa, Dr. Yacine Zerguini (FIFA Medical Officer), Esse Baharmast (FIFA Referee Instructor) told the team about the rules and obligations at the tournament.
There is a need to play safe and with integrity;  and this is always the objective of FIFA, of course, there is need to play clean and follow the rules of the game in true spirit of sportsmanship and that is why this meeting is important.”  Monterrosa said


Baharmast on the other hand, urged the players to avoid unnecessary cautions, he said they should safeguard their health and avoid taking any drugs which was not prescribed by the team’s doctors.
I want to advise you against taking any drug not recommended by your team doctor not even supplements some people would advise would allow you score 10 goals,” Baharmast said

The Golden Eaglets have been drawn against USA, Croatia and hosts, Chile in Group A.
